MK4 Vauxhall Astra - Deactivating the Alarm?!?

Hi Guys, I have a 53 Plate Vauxhall Astra SRi 1.8 which is the sporty looking facelift model and i believe it is a MK4. The alarm has just started going off randomly, even when using the key fob to open doors it still goes off intermittently. It even goes off when the engine is running!!!! I had a previous Astra a year or so back which was a V plate from 2000 and this had a similar problem which was the power sounder batteries dying under the passenger wheel arch. I had to literally drill the power sounder out as i didnt want to pay £80 to replace the batteries. Does this model have the same setup? Is it likely to be the same problem? Is there anyway of totally Deactivating the alarm altogether? Thanks

Better Answer

Yep im afraid that they all have the crappy power sounder, to disable it, if you have the ignition on and unplug the unit then it will stop going off, the problem is the rechargeable battery inside the unit that corrodes and fails. Hope this helps

I had a similar problem an it turned out to be the motion sensor (anti jacking alarm) that was faulty
